🎨 Doodles for Writing: How Doodling can Enhance the Written Word 🎨
Event information: JANUARY 19, 2021, 6PM DENVER TIME
This workshop will be facilitated by Studio Light Illustration. It is part of the Innisfree Workshop Series—any donations go to help Innisfree Poetry Bookstore & Cafe pay COVID-related closing costs & rise from the ashes later.
I can hardly think about the poems of Shel Silverstein without the images and I can hardly think about his illustrations without the words... not to mention Rupi Kaur, Monique Duvall & Joann Abbot Moss, or Brian Andreas! The two can go hand-in-hand so beautifully and give more meaning together than the writing or the picture could do alone. This is why so many writers create images as a part of their process, but you don't have to be an artist to do so.
In this doodle-shop, we are going to explore this relationship through the work of others and through you own doodling experience! With doodling, you can awaken your innate creativity and explore your inner and outer world in a playful process that embraces “mistakes” and releases outcomes - the perfect environment for fresh ideas and perspectives to grow. Doodles invite us to reconnect with curiosity and joy, to leave room for surprise, and to relax more in our creative process.
Join us as we get inspired, visualize, doodle, and discuss topics related to unlocking your creative juices. No artistic skills are necessary. Just as you don't need to be a novelist to write words, you don't need to be a painter to doodle images! All you need is an open mind, an open heart, paper, and something to doodle with.
Facilitator, Karen Light, has a personal mission to unleash creative power. She is an artist, coach/teacher/mentor, and the founder of Studio Light Illustration. Karen is passionate about stories - both illustrating them and guiding others through the process of re-imagining the stories of their lives, individually and collectively! Her toolbox has been honed from working as an artist, two decades of teaching young people, coaching teachers, studying community arts, her work in social justice, and her ever-evolving spiritual practices.
